Hi bloggers! This is my personal journal as I spent my 200-hour radio internship for my Bachelor in Broadcast Communication course. This is my entire experience from application, briefing day, work experience and until I finished my required time. Let me share this monster experience as I invaded the Manila’s Hottest Radio Station in the country none other than, Monster Radio Rx 93.1.
Day 1
June 26, 2013
Wed: 11am-7pm
Welcome to Monster Radio RX93.1!
Yesterday, my
friends and I submitted our resumes in five radio stations (Star, Energy, Wave,
Jam & Monster Radio Rx) in Strata 2000 building in Ortigas. When we are
actually on our way home, I checked my phone and there “Yahoo!” I received a
message from Ms.Riza of RX93.1. As I recall, the text message goes like this:
“Hi arianne! This is Riza of Rx93.1. We received your application for OJT. Can
you come tomorrow, June 26 at 11am for briefing? And because of my excitement,
I replied her: “Yes Ma’am, I will. Thank You and God bless”. My friends didn’t receive a single message
but of course, I never fail to cheer them up not to lose their confidence.
The ‘Briefing
Day’ - Eleven in the morning is exactly my
appointment in Monster Radio RX 93.1 for my briefing. But due to my excitement
and nervousness, I made it to be there 30 minutes ahead of time. When I get
there, I can’t explain the feeling, I feel so cold, my stomach aches, etc. The
moment I met Ma’am Riza, she asked me to come with her in a room which they
call, “conference room”. There, she asked me what my available schedule is. She
discussed Do’s and Don’ts inside the office and they are very strict with the
dress code. A big ‘NO’ for T-shirts, rubber shoes, slippers, pants (except for
Friday) and only blouse or anything with collar for girls. She introduces me to
the people in the office with their consecutive departments. Of course, I
didn’t remember all their names! Hahaha!
And that’s it, I started my first day.
As a
Receptionist – It’s actually my first job in the
office. Ma’am Rizapresented me to Ms. Charlie which takes charge in the
reception wherein she received all the calls every day (business, advertisers,
claiming prizes, fax, etc.) She taught me what and what not to say when
answering calls. She’s also in-charge with the stocks and forms in the office.
Day 2
June 28, 2013
Wed:
9am-6:25pm
Traffic Department Needs Me
It’s actually
my second day in my training. I am still nervous because I feel like alone and
my co-intern Ella, has an opposite schedule parallel to mine. Ms.Lheya, a
regular employee in Rx, who takes charge in logging commercial and minutes
aired by the Djs every day, asks me to log the minutes and products for that
day and she explains that, it is important to do such thing so they can have a
record or a copy which they can present to advertisers who paid for the
publicity for their products that is already aired and if it is match to the
time on which they funded the airing.
An Intern Meets
the Writer - In the afternoon, Sir Paeng (Rafael
Reyes, who graduated AB Mass Communication in Ateneo de Manila and the writer
for RX93.1) asked me to call those winners for their ‘Radio 1 program’. I’ll be
asking them if they are enrolled for the current semester and to remind them to
keep on tuning in with the station though any minute, name of winners will be
announced.
Day 3
July 2, 2013
Tue:
9am-6:05pm
Pasig Day is Intern Day!
Yesterday
before I left the office, Ms. Rose (HR head) and Sir Jon (Station Manager)
requested me to be at the office on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. They explained that,
they actually don’t have office during that day but they are very much
concerned with the calls and fax so they asked me to be there.
What
happened? – Since I was so edgy, I researched on different responses so I can
entertain callers with manner. Together with me, are the Djs and Technical team
who actually don’t enjoy the holiday. Well, the work is light and not that
stressful. I mean, I am just there ‘sitting pretty’ at my computer chair in the
reception’s desk, waiting for calls, entertaining callers, asking their
purposes and tell them that there is no office for that day due to Pasig Day.
If they want they can call tomorrow or if they care, they can leave a message.
Most of them care to call tomorrow! Hahaha..
Day 4
July 3, 2013
Wed:
11:55am-6:22pm
Day Four of my Training
During
Wednesday, I am basically 12noon-6pm but I always make it a point to extend
even some minute. Every morning, logging of advertisements and their
corresponding minutes is my first task which is under for Traffic Department.
Traffic Team monitor if the Djs follow their scripts because the one who made
the pattern for Djs and Technical log is Sir Kenneth, who’s also in the traffic
department. He chiefly does the arrangement of advertisements and make sure
that those advertisements which are so alike cannot be on the same frame, and
adjust the minute for these commercials requested by the clients.
I Met the People
in the Accounting Department – When I am free, I always round the
whole office and asks everybody if they have something to ask or want me to
do. The accounting department, since
they takes charge with the billings, etc. always asks my help to go to the
ground floor and photocopy documents. They also ask me to do Fax and scan
everything that they need but they are nice, it’s just that, they are too busy
to do it themselves and of course, they have ‘Intern’. J
Day 5
July 5, 2013
Fri: 8:58am-6:03pm
TGIF (Thank God
It’s Friday)
Ms.Leya or
Ate Leya is my forever morning buddy. Since she is ‘early bird’ like me, my
first task every morning, is logging of advertisements and their corresponding
minutes is which is under for Traffic Department. She also asks me to file the
paper right after I encoded all those. It took half of my day. It’s not
“marami”, it’s just that, “mabagallangtalagaakongmagtype! Haha”.
I am a
Researcher –Every Friday, it’s “Countdown to Top
Seven” wherein, they play music based on the request and votes of the listeners
and they tally the number of times on which the song was played or requested by
the callers. Sir Paeng (Rafael Reyes, who is the writer for RX93.1) asked me to
research about these Top 10 Songs, information such as the artist, song
history, and everything. I felt guilty when I submitted to him my output,
because I feel like, he is rushing the work, so I asked him if he’ll need
something or anything, just ask me and I
will revise or add research on my work and expectedly, he did. I send him
additional output regarding the songs, but he also did it at the same time I am
working with the research, so he asked me: “Ano yang ginagawamo?” I replied:
“Sir, yungtrivias pa Sir sakanta”, He said: “Hindi, okay na. Send
monalangsakinyungnagawamona”. I really feel down because I fail (just what I
call it). Before I leave, I say sorry to Sir Paeng for being ‘mabagal’ and then
he replied: “No,it’s okay” and he smiled.
Day 6
July 9, 2013
Tue: 9am-9pm
Pacific Rim: My First Movie Premiere Ever!
I am too
excited for this day because tonight, it’s time for my first movie premiere!
But of course, I also consider the morning tasks which they will ask me to do.
Logging of commercials and minutes is always and will always be my first
mission! After that, the accounting team needs me, to photocopy this and that.
This afternoon, Ms. Ice of accounting team asked me to file papers (which I
think receipts from BIR). There, I was asking to arrange all those
chronologically based on the company names. I need to maximize the space
provided to me so not to disturb them with their work.
We Left the
Office at 4pm for Movie Premiere– At first, I
thought that I’ll be the only intern to assist in the said event because every
Tuesday, Ella is not available. I was wrong, Ella came in! She told me that our
boss requested her to come so we can be on joined forces during the premiere.
At 6pm I guess, we reached the Greenbelt 3, Cinema 2 so we can set up. We’re
with Ms.Ea and Ate Matell (who are in-charge with the events), Kuya Dante (RX’s
driver) and Kuya Jay (RX’s messenger). We ate in the Figaro (RX has a
commitment with Figaro wherein monthly; they pay for P40k
worth of gift check, according to Sir Jay.) We assist by putting stickers on
the seats inside the cinema, for those who are VIPs, welcome guests, etc. we’re
thru at exactly 9pm.
Day 7
July 10, 2013
Wed:
9:37am-7:02pm
My Hands Melt…
Logging of
advertisements and their corresponding minutes became my routine every morning
which is under for Traffic Department. It consumes almost half of my day. If
there are new advertisements, I had to add all those with the log and make a
new data.
This
afternoon, I was asked to do the BIR log by Ms.Jhen of accounting department
wherein I write down two pages printed data to their log book. Sorry, I am not
being exaggerated but it started 2:30pm, (I guess) ‘til 7 o’clock in the
evening. That’s the only thing I fixed for the whole afternoon which took that
long! L
Day 8
July 11, 2013
Thurs:
9:00am-2:00pm
Transcribing Song Artist and Titles
Originally,
Thursday is not my schedule for OJT but due to cancellation of our Ecology
class this morning, I decided to go and spend my day in the office and just go
back in the afternoon if we’ll be having announcements from our Internship
class. Since, my co-intern is also present this day; we decided to go opposite
departments so we can maximize the work. While she’s logging the commercials, I
am transcribing the song title and artist in the Disc which is requested by Ms.
Sandy. At 2o’clock, I have no choice but to leave my unfinished task to Ella,
because I have to meet my group mates for our thesis and if there are
announcements from Ma’am Bernabe for our Internship class.
Day 9
July 12, 2013
Fri:
9:30am-6:47pm
I Felt Very Welcome Today!
Yes! It’s actually
last day of the week, my most awaited. Again, logging of advertisements and
their corresponding minutes is your Intern’s first task in the morning. After
that, I filed encoded data in the folder, and right after that, I was asked to
continue transcribing of songs and artist under Ms. Sandy. At the same time, if
the accounting department request me, I have no choice but to leave my work and
go to them to do what they wish me to do (usually, scanning and photocopy).
Today, we
also have visitors from De La Salle University (DLSU), ECE students who are
making their radio tour and it is actually birthday celebration of DJ Rico
Robles who bought pizza for the whole staff. Sir Rico, personally asked me to
go at the pantry for pizza. Ate Leya and Ate Danna invited me also to go with
them at the pantry and unlike on my first week, I felt very welcome. They talk
to me comfortably. “AngsayalangJ”
Day 10
July 16, 2013
Tue:
9:13am-6:22pm
Again, again, again…
Ate Leya is
on her leave so I used her computer table but with consent of Ms. Sandy. Kuya
Dante and other staff there, made jokes such as “Ate Leya, get rebonded, became
prettier, and younger,. So I just laugh at their jests and ride on. At the same
time, though she is on her leave, I did the logging of commercials which became
“automatic” for me because it is the usual first task that I am doing every
morning and file it right after encoding. Ms. Sandy also asked me to finish the
unfinished transcription of songs and artists from the CDs. It consumes my whole
day but it’s okay.
Day 11
July 17, 2013
Wed:
9:03am-6:24pm
Unending Transcriptions
Since, it
really took days to finish the recording of songs and artist from CDs; again I
have to continue the work. I’m with Ella but she takes charge with the
commercials and minutes because she is earlier than me. After I finished
transcribing, Ella had to leave because she is half day during Wednesday so I
have to continue her work. She is transcribing receipts under Ms. Ice of
accounting department, with their business names, address, OR number, Tin
number, and the amount. It is a little bit complicated because some receipts
don’t have O.R numbers or there is a different term, so I have to ask
assistance from Ms. Ice or Sir Kenneth if something complicates me.
Day 12
July 19, 2013
Fri:
9:07am-6:37pm
I am Their Only Intern during Friday.
Of course,
logging of commercials is the first thing to do but this time; I have to log
two dates (July 17 & 18) because Ella is on leave yesterday so she missed
to do the work. However, other departments also need my help, so Ate Leya asked
me to log only July 17. I also sub in the reception when Ma’am Charlie is on
break because Ate Danna, who does the work, is on leave due to asthma. I took
charge twice today; during lunch break and snack
Then, I also
have to finish transcription of receipts under Ms. Ice because again my
co-intern is absent yesterday so I have no choice but to suffer. Joke. Hehe.
After that, Sir Kenneth of traffic department asked me to retype one-page
printed script for him. Lastly, Ms.Riza asked me to isolate papers, folders,
and anything from the box which I think can be recycle or use as scratch papers
and to dispose those which have no longer sense.
Day 13
July 22, 2013
Mon:
8:47am-8:24pm
Hey! I Experienced Concert Series in RX!
Today is
something which is totally different from my past days of training. To tell you
the truth, I don’t have schedule every Monday but because of my unexpected
availability for today, I tried to go and experience how Monday works and the
‘busiest’ day from other days.
OMG! Why So Busy?!
I logged
three consecutive dates for traffic department of commercials and its
conforming minutes for July 19, 20, 21. It is actually an achievement for me
because normally, I record one log consuming half of my day, but this time, I
finished the three logs in partial daytime! Maybe, I am just absorbing the work
because it is my routine every morning.
This
afternoon, I rip CDs for Ms. Sandy. Actually, I thought she is annoyed with me
because she finds me ‘mabagal’ in ripping six CDs, I guess. However, I told her
that it’s because of my computer which I am using. She doesn’t consider the PC
I am using before she reacted that way. And it is actually slower to what she
routinely uses. I didn’t finish all of it because, we (Ella & I), also have
to assist guests like Radio 1, Rocksteady Band and some visitors.
We went to
Figaro to pick up foods for them and we also set the foodstuffs in the pantry.
Everybody was busy and that was the first time I saw as if everyone is working
inside the office especially the Technical team, Sir Paeng, Big Boss and of
course let’s don’t forget their Interns! I made my ten hours or so for today’s
internship but it’s actually cool and a great experience. We also have a chance
to have a photo with Rocksteady vocalist Teady.
Day 14
July 23, 2013
Tue:
9:12am-7:14pm
Solo Day…
Routinely,
it’s my day every Tuesday, I mean, ‘solo intern day’. The first which I did
this morning is of course I logged on our log book. Joke. Hehe.. Well, it is
somewhat different because the first thing I did this morning is ripping CDs
because Ms. Sandy talked to me yesterday that I’ll be continuing what I’ve
started. But since, ripping takes time, really, I decided to do multi-tasking.
While I am ripping CDs, I also log commercials and minutes for ate Lheya. It
actually consumed ¾ of my day, I guess because some CDs are not accurate with
the songs, so I need to manually type the order of songs printed on the cover.
This
afternoon, I continue logging since I haven’t finish yet with it and right
after, I encoded Songs and Artists of Discs. However, expect that it’ll also be
the task which I will do tomorrow because; we have so many boxes to finish.
Fingers cross.
Day 15
July 24, 2013
Wed:
9:00am?-8:00pm
It’s My 2nd Movie Premiere in Monster!
Yiipee!
I am so much
excited for this day. Later will be my second movie premiere here in RX, really
wanted to watch the film! But of course, since the premiere will be this
afternoon, I should have to do other tasks for this morning.
Today, Ella
and I we’re absolutely on duty. She is earlier than me but we decided to divide
the tasks to maximize the work at a small period of time. I logged the
commercials and at the same time, she does encoding CDs. There are actually so
much CDs to encode so right after I’m done with my log, I helped her with her
task – with our task actually.
We almost
consume the whole day encoding songs and its artists. This afternoon, Sir Paeng
noticed that we’re both encoding so he asks me if I can make questions for him
about CINEMALAYA 2013 for his show the next day. As I recall, this is what he
said: “Ah, puronalang kayo encode, hmm..I want you to do questions about
Cinemalaya 2013. Ikawnaman, (pointing to me)! Ay kayo napalangdalawa! (me and
Ella” He requested us to do the questions and I told him, “Yes Sir”. Then five
minutes left, I guess, MaamEa of events called me if I am ready because we need
to leave the office at 4o’clock to set up in the venue of premiere. I was so
disappointed that again, I didn’t make it for Sir Paeng. I felt that he was
also disappointed to me. Ella told him that we’re leaving, and she told Sir
Paeng that she’ll do it tomorrow because she’s on duty every Thursday.
I Met “The
Wolverine”…
And here we
reach Greenbelt 3! We’re ready for the movie later, like on our first movie
premiere, we settled booth outside the Cinema, and upon setting up, we had our
early dinner at Figaro. By six or six-thirty I guess; we started putting
reservation stickers inside the Cinema. We waited for sponsors to arrive and
winners of the free tickets. It was actually fun because we had a lot of
sponsors like ‘My Globe Super Plan’, ‘McDonalds’, ‘Phoenix’, ‘Kettle Corn’
which add excitement during the event. There is also booth set up of Kettle
Corn outside the cinema where they gave away free popcorns! Awesome!
The moment
that DJ CarrenBordador and Jay Abastillas stood up in front and entertain
guests, that means, the movie is about to start and that’s the time that we’re
done with our duty and we can watch the movie! We had free tickets so we can
watch the movie right away. We also got a chance to have free popcorns!
Absolutely, we’re the happiest interns that night!
Day 16
July 26, 2013
Fri:
8:58am-6:30pm
Yes! It’s Friday!
I am a solo
Intern. This is absolutely a busy day for me. I have lots of CDs to encode, log
commercials and other tasks which will other employees will ask me so.
This morning,
I continue encoding CDs because there are still so many in the box and Ate Leya
were late so I decided to do it first before logging commercials. At the same time,
Maam Jen of accounting department requested me to photocopy documents for her
and scan papers. Absolutely I was a tiring day.
This
afternoon, I decided that when Sir Paeng arrived, I will ask him if he has
something to ask for or want me to do and I will stop whatever I am doing –
right away in order to pay yesterday’s disappointment I caused him. So since
Friday is ‘Countdown to Top 7’ day, he asked me to research on artists’
information of Top 7 songs for that week. So, truly, I did it right away! I did
my best to do it! He also asked me to retype documents and to do it first
before doing my research. I am happy that at last, I served him; I just wish
that he is satisfied with my output.
I also logged
commercials as my last task for today. And this how my day ends. Sitting In
front of a computer, encoding and marking…
Day 17
July 29, 2013
Mon:
9:09am-8:23pm
Your Intern gets starstruck with the ‘Philippine Diyosa’
– Ms. Anne Curtis Smith…
It’s my
second time to work in the office during Monday. The last time, was truly a
great one where Rocksteady band heated up the RX booth with their songs.
Though, expected to be late, at least, I did enjoy.
Today, the
‘Philippine Diyosa’ and a fantasy of a lot of men and one of the sexiest women
in show business visited the RX and make the time moves so slow. She is none
other than Ms. Anne Curtis Smith. She was actually plugging the Palmolive soap
she indorse. Actually, it was the second time I saw her, the first time was on
Showtime (noontime show in ABS-CBN) during our radio tour when I was in the
first year. Nothing has changed, she is still her, simple and elegant. My eyes
just stuck to Ms. Anne the whole morning. I also grabbed the opportunity to take
some pictures and video. I also made a fansign for my boyfriend who was in
abroad because he is one of those men who truly magnetize by Ms. Anne. However,
instead of being jealous, I just made him something he would like in order to
make him so happy and ‘habang hair’.
Ten or so in
this morning, I guess, everyone back to their work ‘because even the employees
has got stuck with the ‘putting
pang-Dyosa’ actress. So I need to continue my log. Yes! I’m not yet done
with it. However, this afternoon, Sir Paeng asked me to do some research about
those articles on Philippine Star last Sunday and to look for the uploaded
articles on their website which is the philstar.com.
So, I just need to set aside what I’m doing because it will just take a while.
So, upon sending him my research, I get back to my unending encoding of Songs
and Artists.
Since its
Monday, we also have Concert Series! The E-V band (I don’t know if it’s right)
rocks the RX. They promote their album and of course, they made some ‘sample’
of those. One of the members of the band is a boyfriend of Megan Sebastian
known as ‘Megandang Megan’ who is an Ifm DJ. She graduated same college as mine
way back 2010, I guess, and she is now one of the DJs of said station. The
concert series lasted ‘til 8pm or so and their song were really good. I love
it, but not really. Oh, I see opportunity in them. That’s it! But I’m not
really that convinced with them. Joke. Overall, it was a fine, fun and tiring
day that all I want to do is to stretch my whole body ‘til I get home.
Day 18
July 30, 2013
Tue:
8:43am-6:14pm
It was a super kilig day, indeed!
Today is
Tuesday. It was almost an hour before I get to Strata. When I was finally in
elevator going to RX, I am so excited at the same time nervous because of our
guest this morning. When I finally enter the office, my eyes accidentally went
to the DJs lounge and there I saw Mr. Dingdong Dantes who’s also looking in my
direction. “OMG! Hindi pa man ako nag-iinkinikilignaako! Hahaha.” When I went
to the place where he is in, I greeted him: “Hi, good morning” and he smiled
back and said: “Hi”. Ohhhh My Gusssssh!!! From that very moment, I knew that
we’re really meant to be! Hahaha
Mr.Dantes
visited RX for his product promotion of Belo Men and also some of his projects
like his upcoming teleserye in GMA Kapuso and film. I invited my friends from
other stations to drop by if they wish to see and to take pictures with
Dingdong. As expected, they really loved the idea. They went to RXI Hehehe.. I
also got a chance to have a picture with him introducing myself as “Arianne”
hmm.. There’s nothing special, it’s just that I wanted to shake hands with him
and it was actually rhymed with the name of his long-time girlfriend, Ms.
Marian Rivera. After the Morning Rush, of course whether I like it or not, I
should let Mr.Dantes go and everything just back to normal.
My morning
was so good and lovely. Many girls for sure get envy with me because of that
photo I posted in Instagram and Facebook where Mr. Dingdong Dantes held his
hand on my shoulder. A good start for this day! I am so inspired to do my log
and to do CD encoding the whole day.
Day 19
July 31, 2013
Wed:
9:09am-6:13pm
“Hi! This is
Ayan, your researcher and encoder for today…”
Early this
morning, I researched on the assigned task by Sir Paeng about the show ‘The
Apprentice Asia’ where one of the top 2 contenders is a Filipino, Mr. Jonathan
Yabut. Actually, 2 lucky Filipino are part of the show but one of them Ms.
Celina Le Neindre gets fired on Episode 7 and Jonathan remains and represents
our flag to compete for his contender Andrea Loh, Singapore to get the dream
job under Mr. Tony Fernandes ____________. I made questions for Sir Paeng
because he told us (Me and Ella) to research on and make questions because
he’ll have the two for his program, “Heard
on Thursday”
This
afternoon, I continue encoding CDs. I also went to Figaro to pick up foods for
our clients. I was also asked by the accounting department to do their
photocopies.
Day 20
Aug. 2, 2013
Fri:
9:00am-6:14pm
I am your receptionist for the 3rd time!
Ma’am Charlie
is on her leave today until tomorrow so meaning, I am your receptionist for
today. I was actually my third time to do this job but still; I am nervous to
commit mistakes. The last time kasi, my co-intern Ella is on the reception when
the wife of our boss called, and she actually committed mistake in transferring
of call because the local numbers there actually not accurate. She holds the
call, but since the number not in used, she unhold and hold again.
Ms.ChinggayBarreiro, called our HR, Ms. Rose and asked who’s in the reception
stating what Ella did. Ms. Rose is in hurry to talk to us. She asked whose more
‘maalam’ in reception but I didn’t volunteer myself. She told me to take charge
at the reception and let Ella do what I am about to do.
So, again
even if it’s not my first time, the feeling is still the same that as if it is.
I took charge with the calls, receiving package, letters and foods, receiving,
saving, and sending fax to the corresponding people and entertain guests that
come in and out at the reception.
Since, the
calls are not that continuous, during my spare time, I also log commercials and
its minutes for yesterday’s log for the month of August. Ate Leya and Sir
Kenneth of Traffic Department told me to just focus on the calls because I
might not be concentrating on my task as receptionist and to prevent
‘pagkalito’ but I told them that it’s okay, ‘coz I’m just doing it when no
calls and fax or just what I said, during my spare time.
This
afternoon, Ate Dana of Traffic Department approaches me to ask for eye-drops
because her eyes get irritated with something and there she started to open up.
Ate Dana is a type of where she looks like a teenager. She is slim, having a
long hair, but among the traffic staff, I think she’s the only one who doesn’t
like me. I feel that she wanted me to commit mistakes or whatever. She also
kept on saying that ‘’Akalakobamatalinoka?’’ when I am on my hard time. There is this instance when I told them that,
hypothetically, I was running for Cum Lau De but, my dream for honours just
ended too soon when I got 2.75 during my second semester in 1st
year. And she said “Ah, matalinokapala?” That’s what I exactly told them but I
didn’t say that I am smart or whatever. All I shared is that to be a Cum Lau De
is a dream for me but this time I couldn’t make it yet because of what
happened. Okay, let’s go back to the real status. So, she asks for eye-drops
and she started open up. She told me that she is on her hard time with her
husband (I don’t know if they are married or what, but they have a baby) who
was also working in RX, our graphic designer. She told me that their
relationship is not fine because she don’t even receive single money from her
husband to support their baby. Ate Dana is sick. She has asthma and tumour in
her ovary (I don’t know if that’s the term, but it is actually ‘bukol’ in
Filipino, I just don’t know exactly what it is in English and so not to
interrupt my story). That’s the reason why at age of 24, she had a baby with
her boyfriend. She told me that, when she was 18, they detected the tumour the
symptoms are the continuous menstrual or bleeding that lasted sometimes for two
months, pale skin, and ‘pasapasangbraso’. At that moment, the doctor told her
to have a baby but she told them “how?” she doesn’t even have a boyfriend that
time. That’s also the only way to prevent the tumour that poisoning her body.
Well, ‘til she had a boyfriend but it didn’t work because she told me that,
that guy is two-timer so she ended the relationship too soon. Until she works
in RX where she met her husband, she told me, “Hindi nga two-timer, immature
naman”. From that very moment, I felt that Ate Dana trust me to know her story.
I listen to her very attentively while looking into her eyes. And I just let
her talk.
She told me
that she is not in good terms with the family of her boyfriend because they
think she let her boyfriend away from them. When her daughter is about
one-month old, she told me that Sir Rj and her already separated. And that from
then, Sir Rj doesn’t see their baby. He don’t even give support financially or
what which made Ate Dana so disappointed at the same time out of focus because
they still work in the same field where they see each other every day. She was
actually teary-eyes sharing to me her story. She told me to enjoy my life a
single and not to have a baby too soon because, based on her experienced, it
wasn’t easy. Not really.
Her story
gets interrupted when the phone rings and I have no choice to answer the phone
because that was exactly my task at the reception. I told her that everything
will be okay and all she needs to do is to be strong and she walk away going to
her table. I don’t think I did the right thing to tell her those words because,
I think she is an expert with that. But I don’t even think what comfort she
need in order to feel better. That was the first time that she open up to me
and maybe, she’s the only one who did that among the Rx’s staff.
Day 21
Aug. 12, 2013
Mon:
9:09am-8:16pm
After my long break, I miss RX…
It’s actually
one week exactly since I fail to go to office. I went home in our province in
Nueva Ecija to visit my family after a month of not seeing them and my
boyfriend from abroad went home after ten months of his training. I went home
this Monday and I have no choice but to go back to Manila for my internship on
Tuesday. However, due to the rainy and cold weather, it became hard for me to
wake up early. I set my alarm 2 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday but
unfortunately, it was set on Thursday! My Mom woke me up 4:38am where it is
really impossible for me to reach Manila at 7am. However, I still tried.
The traffic
is so heavy and the weather is not in good term with the typhoon Labuyo. I decided to text Ms.Riza to
inform her that I cannot make it that day (Tuesday) even for the next because
we have a commitment to attend in main campus. We are required to attend the
convocation at the BulwagangBonifacio. I also don’t have my schedule during
Thursday, and this Friday, it became a holiday to give respect for Muslim
people for Ramadan. So, that’s it! I
made my one week of break at the office.
Monday
This Monday,
my officemates teases me because my boyfriend went back home from abroad
because his internship come to its end. I really miss the people. I’m kind of
shy to approach them at first because I am guilty that it’s a week of not being
there and not seeing them actually. Some think that I am done with my
internship but they are wrong with that idea! I’m back, so back! Hahaha =)))
I logged two
and a half days of commercials while the other people in accounting request me
to photocopy this and that, scan this and that, and so on. Sir Paeng also asked
me to research information about Zia Quizon wherein she will be our guest for
tonight for our concert series.
Though the
weather is still mad, I and Ella still went to Figaro to pick up foods for our
guests. I did video recording for the first time because most of the time
during concert series I am just there. Just there taking my own photos with the
band and artist whoever our guests but this time, it’s different and it’s a big
deal for me, really. I did video recording for Ms. Zia Quizon for her album
launch. I also grabbed a chance to take my own video at my cell phone and
pictures with her. At first, I am about to go home at six o’clock but it didn’t
happen because I don’t want to leave Ella alone while there are still a lot of
things to do especially during concert series.
And that’s
how my day ends.
Day 22
Aug. 13, 2013
Tue:
8:59am-6:35pm
Solo…
Different day
but I did the same thing…
I logged
commercials today for Ate Leya. Actually logging of commercials every morning
is like my morning exercise. I mean, it is not healthy or I cannot release
sweat out of it, but it actually energizes my mind and body. However, this
time, unlike the exercise, it gives stress. I feel like my eyes were super
abused for the past days of my internship but I know its part though of this
training. More like of challenge for the real world of working in a corporate
world of business.
Upon logging
of commercials, I also did CD sorting. These are the CDs which they called ‘45’ (I don’t know if that’s how they
spell it not write, but I write it that way). I arranged all of those according
to their titles alphabetically. It was a lot more stressful than logging of
commercials. I also wear face mask because the dust of the CDs stays in my nose
which is not healthy. Today, I was also asked by other department to photocopy
documents. And hey, that’s the whole story of my day.
Day 23
Aug. 14, 2013
Wed:
9:13am-1:24pm
I log, I sort, in a short period of time…
Hi! Today is
Wednesday and I was actually 13 minutes late after 9 o’clock but I don’t mind
because I also extend my minutes before check out. Anyway this is what
happened.
Ella and I
still have lots of ‘45’ to sort and
this time we have a major problem! Ella forgot that there is still this ‘big
box’ containing lots of CDs that are still unsorted. OMG! So I need to leave my
log of commercials to help her with it because even I cannot make it alone. So,
we did ‘Indian seat’ carefree, we
talk some stories about anything that we think, we sing whatever song comes to
our mind (but of course only the two of us can hear) and we enjoy sorting. We
actually have bonding while working.
Ate Dana is
absent so Ms. Charlie approaches us to sub in the reception and Ella
volunteered herself so I was alone sorting but it was fine, really. It was
almost done anyway. I just transferred all the CDs at the traffic department
and arranged it very well according to its titles. But mind you! We are not
done yet with it; though it was already clustered based on whether it is A, B,
C, etc., we still have to arrange it alphabetically.
So while Ella
is busy at the reception, I continue my log then. But we are both half day so I
fail to finish it. I am nervous that the work will get bigger because Ella is
also uncertain if she can make it tomorrow because she has a commitment to
attend for their thesis. So by Friday, I think I will tell you what happen and
how I work on with the task. Crossed fingers!
Day 24
Aug. 16, 2013
Fri:
9:21am-7:32pm
Happy Birthday RX! Happy Anniversary and lastly, last
Friday for me…
Last night, I
checked my remaining hours in my internship and it surprises me that I only
have ten hours and two minutes to complete it. I was of great daze because, I
expect that I still have more hours than what the result of my computation is,
but I was completely wrong. It’s actually a mix feeling for me. I’m glad that
“at last! These 200 hours of mine will come to its end and I can also bring
back all the expenses which I spent for the last two months of training. Last,
I will miss these faces and always remember the work that they’re asking me to
do so. Maybe, goodbye is and will always be part of how people meet. I mean,
people meet for a reason. If someday I’ll meet these people again, I hope they
can notice me. I wish that I leave at least something to them and I hope it’s a
positive impact or if not, it’ll be also fine for me.
Every Friday,
I am a solo intern. Upon checking in, I went to traffic department because it
became my routine and I assume that there is a cubicle reserved for me to do
commercial log. I saw Raymond Gutierrez inside the booth with our morning
program ‘The Morning Rush’ with DJ
Chico Garcia and Gino. Raymond or ‘Mond’ is one of the Bachelors of a
well-known family in show business, Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama. He made
a radio guesting and after the program I grabbed a chance to have a picture
with him at the reception.
I logged
commercials and filed papers afterwards. I also did photocopy and scan of
documents for accounting department for forMs. Len. Sorry to say this, but I
think she likes me. Not a typical like huh? I mean, she always asked me to do
those things even if I am busy at the moment that she needs me.
As if I can
tell her that. All I can do is to pause my work and go to her and do whatever
she wishes.
After
logging, I also logged receipts for Ms. Ice of accounting department. Actually,
she asked me to do that log two days ago, I guess. Unfortunately, I cannot
prioritize her that time because we have so much of CDs to sort and Ella needs
me because it is really so many. So today, I decided to make the log for her
and thank God, I finished it this afternoon.
Aside from
logging of commercials and receipts and do the photocopy of documents, it’s
also my last Friday in the office. I don’t know if the people will miss me
because I become a good one, or if they will just miss me because no one will
have to do the work for them. I mean, my stay in the RX was completely a
reflection of the real world. It was different from the four corners of the
school because, it is reality and in school, it is a preparation for that
reality. One thing in common, you can meet same people. Some are nice, some are
not. But I cannot blame them, I am just an Intern and if they think they are
superior to I, then I will not consume time to argue. By 5pm I guess, there is
a catering set up in the reception and the foods are starting to fill the whole
office (sorry for being exaggerated). Ate Leya asks me to stay because it is
actually the pre anniversary party of RX and there is a catering service and
party later, so I stayed.
Everything
was fine, though not perfect. It was more of Japanese foods like Yakisoba,
tofu, pork teriyaki, mongo sprouts with carrots, and the star of any occasion
here in the Philippines, ‘Lechon’! (roasted pig).
I ate in the
conference room with other staffs and with the President, Mr.Chito Barreiro and
his wife, Ma’am Chinggay. I don’t know if it is right to talk to them while in
fact they don’t actually talking to me or I cannot relate to their stories
until Sir Chito noticed me, “Bakithindikanagsasalitadyan?
Kainkalangngkaindyan.” Also Ma’am Chinggay added, “Are you with us? (Then
everybody laugh) Saankaba?” I told them: “PUP po” she and Sir Chito keep on
asking: “Bagobasya? Saanbasyanaka-assign?” I told them, “Ay hindipo. Intern po”
Sir Chito said, “Ah kalakosa Accounting Department”. That’s how the scenario
and my experience with the President and his first lady. Until other Barreiro
brothers joined the room. They crack jokes but to tell you honestly, I cannot feel
totally there. I mean maybe others invited me to stay for dinner but that’s it.
They are good but as I said earlier on this part of my story, not all of them.
Everybody forget their stress in a while. You can hear different laughs,
stories and noises of spoons and plates, music by M2M from the four corners.
Before the
night gets over, I decided to go home because it’ll be a long night for them.
Different wines, beers, tequila were in the pantry and it’ll not be nice if I
stay longer because I don’t drink. But it was a great night indeed. It was an
awesome dinner and I was bloated like a hippo’!
Day 25
Aug. 22, 2013
Thurs:
9:03am-2:55pm
While
netizens ‘throwback’, I’m here at the station and feeling my last Thursday in
front of the computer, sitting in the reception chair, taking so much courage
to say good bye to my RX family for 200 hours of stay..
This is
finally my last day of completion of my 200 hours of internship. To tell you
the truth, I don’t have my schedule every Thursday, just which, Mayor Estrada
of Manila postponed the classes today due to typhoon Maring and Habagat which
leave the country too much destruction for almost a week.
I came to
office at 9 o’clock in the morning and I discharged at 2:55pm. Due to Ma’am
Charlie’s absence, I get a chance to enjoy the reception area. Well, I am just
being sarcastic when I said “enjoy”. In a literal word, I mean, it’s not easy
answering calls from different people especially those who have a very soft
voice or fast talking. At the same time, I also take charge with the package or
the people who will come inside the office and the fax. I didn’t get the chance
to help Ella with the commercial logs because she won’t let me. However, people
at the reception should not do multi-tasking in order to give focus on the
area.
Before I
discharge, I talk to some people there and told them that it’s my last day. I
even talked to our supervisor and she told me if I can extend. Ms. Rose whose
in HR, Ate Leya and Kuya Dante asked me to come back tomorrow because there
will be a free lunch for all the staff because it’s RX’s Anniversary. I told
them I will.
What impact RX’s caused me?
Well, to tell
you honestly. It’s really hard to fit in in a world where you don’t know
anyone. I mean, my 200 hours of training is a picture of a real world after I
graduate. The people there were all faces of which I am about to
encounter in the near future or possibly, I will meet most horrible people than
them. These are my learning from the past 200 hours:
I learned to value
time. To follow my schedule is my choice and to
finish all the task assigned to me for that day. I learned to follow and value time because the people there did the same thing.
I practice discipline. In some radio station they don’t
require dress code. I mean, trainees are free to wear anything which they find
comfortable but not in Rx. They value dress code whether you’re a regular
employee, boss, utility, messenger and trainee.
I boost
confidence. To spend my 200 hours does not easy
to know that I know no one in the company. I give respect to all the people and
I receive respect back. I befriended even the smallest people in the company
and it is so nice that I get their sympathy and I can talk to them open and confidently.
I value money. Ortigas isn’t that near in my area so I need to 3 rides before I
reach there except for the long walk before I finally reach Strata. The place
is also composed of different fast foods, restaurants and café house which
aren’t fit for my budget. I learned to bring lunch to at least save money.
I learned to act
righteous where I stand. I mean, I am their
trainee so I have no right to ask them why they are so demanding sometimes.
It’s part of my job. To do whatever they will ask me to do and to finish it as
part of my training. I proved that, nothing starts easy. Even the highest paid
radio DJ or television news anchor starts in the low position to be where they
are now.
I learned to work independently. Since I don't have any of my friends with me, I learned not to ask help from anyone. I learned to do it alone and use my full knowledge and effort to finish those things assigned to me not because I need to, but because, it'll help me a lot in the real world..
I learned from different people. Inside the office, I encountered different faces with different attitudes.I learned to listen with their stories and it is nice that they listen to me too when it's my time to tell mine. They advice me to study hard and after graduate to enjoy life being single. Ate Leya in the Traffic Department is the most person in the Rx who always give me advice and I learned from her a lot. I miss her so much to be honest.
My 200 hours
come to its end but all the experiences that this training brought to me will live forever. I am so certain that I will apply all the learning in my real world
as I start my journey after this academic experience. My path may be the toughest after all; but I will do my best to make the greatest thing in my life.
